LivingDreams

Welcome to the world of your dreams!

The purpose of Family Systems Perspectives and the Interpretation of Relationship Dreams is to teach professional counselors and their clients how to use researched dream interpretation models to reduce stress from relationship concerns. The Personalized Method for Interpreting Dreams (PMID) Model is the major researched model presented. My goals for the book are:

1. To fill a need for training professional counselors how to facilitate clients’ interpretations of dreams to reduce stress from issues concerning family and other major relationships.

2. To create increased awareness that dreams are vehicles for self-discovery.
The treatment presented in Family Systems Perspectives and the Interpretation of Relationship Dreams is expansive because it covers history and cultural dreaming, gives detailed instructions on facilitating clients’ use of the PMID model, explains how to use two additional researched dream interpretation models, and provides synopses of several other models and many detailed tables showing the results from our research and explorations of use of the PMID model.

The book is likewise practical because learning starts with how to recall dreams and continues through a series of real-life dreams and counselor-facilitated dream interpretations. As with my earlier publication, this book is a practical guide to how dreams can change people’s waking lives.

The book is also on the cutting edge because it is a comprehensive resource for counselors, psychotherapists, and educators on a subject (dream interpretation) that is only minimally covered in most theory and practice of counseling and psychotherapy books.
My main teaching strategy has always been to guide readers—practicing counselors, students, faculty, and other interested readers—in using the techniques presented in the book.

Distinctive approaches that I present in my book are:

1. Dialogues between the counselor-facilitator and the client-dreamer about interpretations
2. The history and cultural use of dreams
3. An interactive session presented in one chapter as an option for a three-hour class to introduce graduate level students to the use of dreams
4. Excerpts from published writings by other respected professionals.
