Difficulty remembering dreams is a common problem, but also one of the easiest to solve. It's a skill that we all had as children but have just forgotten how to do as adults because most of us haven't tried to remember our dreams for years. So, there's nothing difficult to learn or do other that just making the effort to try and remember your dreams.
Here a few simple steps to help get you started...
1) Don't worry about trying to remember every detail of every dream. That will happen soon enough. Even if you can only remember a few disjointed segments, these are usually the most important part of the dreams.
2) It's easiest to remember dreams when you first wake up...when you're still half asleep and your waking mind hasn't fully taken over. Let yourself stay in that sleepy state and notice your first thoughts...they often come directly from dreams you were having.
3) Tell yourself that you're going to remember your dreams each night before you go to sleep. If you've ever told yourself "I have to remember to..." to help remember to do some task, this is exactly the same exercise. It prepares your mind to pay more attention to remembering a dream.
4) Keep a notepad by your bed. Just write down a few notes to help you remember your dreams later. This is also helpful when you wake up during the night after a dream.
5) Be patient. You won't immediately begin remembering every detail of every dream. But the mere act of trying to remember your dreams will get your mind trained to hold on to these thoughts. The more you just make the effort...no matter how small...the more you'll start to remember your dreams.
